The following is the 1707 Church Death Record for my 9th Great Grandmother Anastacia de Trevino. Even-though the following document shows her name as Stacia. She was buried in the Convent of San Francisco in present day Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. This document indicates that she was married to Diego Gonzalez at the time of her death. It also indicates that she was from El Valle de Las Salinas. This document does not indicate whom her parents are but from other sources I have her parents as Alonso de Trevino and Catalina de Ayala.

The following is the 1795 death record of my 8th great grandfather Juan Antonio Ramos. The following document indicates that he was married to Anna Maria Anzaldua and that he died from old age at 80 years old. I have yet to find his parents so if any one knows please let me know. Transcription is missing some words due to the document having some water damage.

The following is the 1790 death record of my 8th great grandmother Anna Maria Anzaldua Saucedo. This document indicates her last name as being Saldua but from the marriage record of her daughter Juana Gertrudis Ramos we know it to be Anzaldua. This document also indicates that she died from “tisico” meaning that she died of tuberculosis. Her parents are listed as Sebastian Anzaldua and Mariana Saucedo, also that she was married to Juan Antonio Ramos. She was originally from Cerralvo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico and died at age 78. She did not make a will since she was “pobre” poor.

Eight Generations of Vales and Sanchez and Consanguine Zamorano Curbelo and Trevino Families, is a very interesting family Genealogy Book. The author starts by describing how she arrived to Rio Grande City and then to La Grulla, Texas. Her story begins with her decision to get a teaching position in La Grulla, Texas back in the 1920′s.

I have yet to fully go over all the names in this book to see if any of my wife’s or even my ancestors are listed in there. I just thought that I let you know about this book since I am sure it will be of interest to anyone who has their roots in La Grulla, Rio Grande City and also other cities and towns of Starr and Hidalgo Counties.

The following is the 1684 Church Marriage record for my 7th great grandparents, Francisco Rodriguez de Montemayor and Maria Caballero de los Olivos, they married in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. There are to reasons the following document is interesting. First, it is a double wedding, the brides are half  sisters since both of their names are Maria and it is also indicated that the second Maria is “hija natural” natural daughter meaning that she was born out of wedlock. Second it mentions the names of the parents for both of the couples. The parents of Francisco are Diego Rodriguez de Montemayor and Ynes de la Garza. Her parents are listed as Sargent Lucas Caballero and Juana de Barrasa whom was deceased by the time the marriage occurred.

The following is the 1676 Church Death Record for my 8th great grandfather Diego Rodriguez de Montemayor. He was married to Ines de la Garza. This document indicates that he was buried in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. It also indicates that his father was Miguel de Montemayor. His son Francisco my 7th great grandfather is also listed as an “albecea” wichmeans as one of the executors of his will. I have yet to find his will.

En tres de Mayo de mil y seiscientos y setenta y seis anos, murio el Capan. Diego Rodriguez de Montemaior espanol, fu Sassado Con Ynes de la Garza, Confesso y resivio Los Stos. Sacramentos de la Eucharistia y extremauncion; testo ante el Capan. Gregorio Fernandez Alcalde ordinario de esta Ciudad y mando enterrar en la Parrochial desta esta ciudad con missa de cuerpo presente y un novenario de missas cantadas = veinte missas rezadas, en el Convento de esta ciudad por el alma de los naturales, que an muerto en su convielo, Diez missas resadas porel alma de Miguel de Mte.maior supadre, y a dos Reales a las madres forsosas = fueron sus albaceas Franco. I received the following email from Crispin Rendon yesterday.

This email is going out to the 459 people found in my genealogy address book (stakeholders).

Stakeholder 2012 Genealogy Year End Report,

 The database has grown to over 271,000 records, up 33,000 records from the year 2011. Over 600 records, on average, were added weekly. Some of these records came from the research required to complete the sixteen volume series on the Families of General Teran, Nuevo Leon. That series blossomed into an attempt to create genealogies for every one of the thousands of couples that were married in the General Teran Catholic Church for a period of over 100 years.  The research for the published three volume Families of Santiago, Nuevo Leon series and the research for the yet to be published nine volume series Families of Salinas Victoria, Nuevo Leon account for the bulk of the records added.  Additional database records came from family trees submitted in return for ancestor reports. Those reports ranged in size from a three page 4-generation report to a 543 page 48-generation book. The number of ancestor reports rose from 59 in 2011 to 80 in 2012. Some ancestor books were converted from English into Spanish. One ancestor book was created for my Kindle reader. Not quantified, yet very important, are the countless corrections to the records some of which extended lines, others shortened lines and still others re-routed them. The introduction of my Top 20 mtDNA list was a huge success. Expect a similar list for y-DNA sometime in 2013.

 I am thinking of converting the Slaves of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico book, which is in a pdf format, into a Kindle reader format and am interested in learning if there is any interest for it. If you read books with an electronic device other then a computer let me know what you think.

Just wanted to let you know about SAGA “Spanish American Genealogical Association” they are based out of Corpus Christi, Texas and you can visit their website here http://www.sagacorpuschristi.com/ .

Why am I talking about SAGA? I am talking about SAGA because it is one of the few organizations that have written many index books about church marriage, birth, and death records. Thus making them available for sale on their website and you can also find their books in many libraries. I have used their books many times to break some brick walls.

This is their mission statement:

“The object of the Spanish American Genealogical Association shall be that of creating and maintaining an organization for the promotion of research, collection, and development of genealogical data of the earliest Spanish and Mexican settlers of Texas. The Association’s goal is to conduct research, obtain collections, and develop resources (computerization of data) of genealogical data and to make them available to its membership, as well as to the south Texas community by housing said materials in libraries and archives.”

I think their mission statement states what they do very accurately.

They have books about:

Only about three of the above are indexed by FamilySearch so as you can see the value of these books when it comes to genealogical research is immense. Just wish I could afford to buy all of them.
